Development of Algorithms for the Exploitation of ERS-ENVISAT using the Stable Points Network.

Objective

The objective of the validation phase was to demonstrate the continuity of the phase measurements between ERS and ENVISAT on persistent scatterers for series of different test sites and to validate the interferometric phase values against external measurements (piezometric and optical leveling) in terms of lineal displacement, temporal evolution of vertical displacement as well of the aside products needed to derived the subsidence map such as the estimation of the atmospheric phase screen and the derivation of a very precise DEM by means of precise geocoding where possible.

The validation included comparison of independent series of ERS derived displacement and ASAR derived displacement to prove continuity. Additionally assessment between independent processing chains was performed.

Four different test sites were analyzed:

BARCELONA
PARIS
LAS VEGAS
MUNICH

And a specific test to detect phase continuity on precisely monitored corner reflectors near the TU Delft was also followed as well as an innovative method to derive the atmospheric delay component from the water vapor concentration extracted from the MERIS instrument on board ENVISAT, which can acquire simultaneously to the imaging radar.
