TERRAFIRMA User Workshop and Training Day hosted by ALTAMIRA INFORMATION (1-2 December 2010, Frascati)As project lead for Terrafirma, ALTAMIRA INFORMATION will host an event which will bring together all those who have worked on Terrafirma products, to make presentations of their interpretations, together with users, researchers and other interested parties who would like to share in the applications and understanding of ground movement monitoring which are emerging from this state-of-the-art satellite technology. The Terrafirma Training Day will provide hands-on instruction on the practical application of Terrafirma products using PSI datasets from hydrogeology and tectonics case studies. ALTAMIRA INFORMATION holds a successful Progress Meeting for the TERRAFIRMA project (21-22 June 2010, Frascati) As project lead for Terrafirma, ALTAMIRA INFORMATION held a progress meeting that brought together more than 30 European experts in the field of Earth Observation, as well as representatives from geological surveys and specialists in the study of earthquakes, flooding, landslides and hydrogeology. The meeting was held at the European Space Agency's European Space Research Institute in Frascati, Italy.

ALTAMIRA INFORMATION to lead the TERRAFIRMA project (2009-2012)TERRAFIRMA is a pan-European terrain motion hazard information service supported by the European Space Agency's GMES program and is aimed at providing civil protection agencies, disaster management organisms, and coastal, rail and motorway authorities with support in the process of risk assessment and mitigation by using the latest technology to measure terrain motion from satellite radar data.

ALTAMIRA INFORMATION presented at the Workshop on Terrain Motion Analysis Based on Remote Sensing Tools. Geraint Cooksley, the Production and Operations Director, presented on ERS and TerraSAR-X applications to landslides and subsidence at the event organized by the IGME (Geological and Mining Institute of Spain), the IG (Institute of Geomatics) and the IGC (Geological Institute of  Catalonia).

Altamira Information’s work is presented by  Adif in Madrid (25-26 June, 2009)Adif explains Altamira Information’s InSAR study for the monitoring project on the tunnels in Barcelona, Montcada, Montmeló and Girona during the Conference on Geotechnics in Rail Infrastructure (Hispanic-Portuguese), organized by the CEDEX. This project is part of a contract that is managed by Adif’s Directorate of Studies in the areas of Geology and Geotechnics for support to the Directorates of Building Engineering for the sections of tunnels which Adif is building between Barcelona and Figueras.

Earthquake in L’Aquila: ALTAMIRA INFORMATION measures ground deformation caused by the earthquake ALTAMIRA INFORMATION provides crucial information on the recent earthquake in Italy’s Abruzzo region.  Using satellite images, ALTAMIRA INFORMATION contributes to the European Commission’s SAFER project (Services and Applications for Emergency Response) by providing millimetric measurements of ground deformation caused by the earthquake in L’Aquila, helping to better understand the mechanism of the earthquake, and to identify zones that are vulnerable to secondary effects, such as landslides.
The accompanying interferogram was produced using the DIAPASON interferometric processing chain, based on a pair of Envisat data.

International Geomatics Week (3-5 March 2009, Barcelona)During the International Geomatics Week, held in conjunction with Globalgeo, the Geomatic & Geotelematic International Show in Barcelona, Johanna Granda, Director of Sales and Marketing of ALTAMIRA INFORMATION, and Oscar Mora, New Products Manager, presented on applications of InSAR technology in various sectors. 


Hurricane Katrina: ALTAMIRA INFORMATION maps ground movement before and after the hurricane ALTAMIRA INFORMATION’s team of radar experts joins the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in mapping subsidence and uplift in New Orleans before and after Hurricane Katrina.
