CASE STUDY: COAL MINING (BRGM)
![]() |
Objective of the project
The BRGM, together with the ESA, was interested in a study about subsidence in the coal mining area “Gardanne” (South of France), especially because the area was known for its very strong subsidence. |
Analysis and results
Strong subsidence has been detected for different periods in various parts of the region where mining activities where taking place at that time.
Results were independently compared with the Charbonnage de France in situ data.
Updated subsidence information every 15 days.
Strong subsidence has been detected for different periods in various parts of the region where mining activities where taking place at that time.

Updated subsidence information every 15 days.
Very strong subsidence was measured, and most subsidence threatened areas were identified.
